Genealogy is like a jigsaw puzzle, but you don't have the box top, so you don't know what the picture is supposed to look like. As you start putting the puzzle together, you realize some pieces are missing, and eventually you figure out that some of the pieces you started with don't actually belong to this puzzle. I'll help you discover the right pieces for your puzzle and assemble them into a picture of your family.

DeleteAccording to the dates, my mother's family (Kopeschny, 8 members) came over on that ship on Jan 11, 1949; might be too early for your purpose. I have their manifest (one page).
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting! Yes, that is earlier than Janette was looking for. The Marine Jumper had a busy schedule!
DeleteI arrived in July 1949. I just spent the day with a fellow passenger from that trip. We are both 72. I would like to start a Facebook page for the European Refugees of that era. Can you point to locations of passenger lists?
ReplyDeleteProbably the largest collection of passengers lists online is at Ancestry.com. Second largest collection is likely at FamilySearch.org. Those are the two places I would start searching. The best of luck with creating your FB page.

You still have the ticket? Wow!
DeleteMy parents and my two oldest brothers sailed on Marine Jumper from Bremerhaven to New York April 7 to April 17, 1948. They appear on a list of Hungarian passengers for that voyage in the Aroldsen Archives, which follows all displaced persons in the American zone of Germany. My great-uncle, barber for NYC's Biltmore hotel, sponsored them. The tickets came into my possession.
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting. How fortunate that you have the tickets. You might be interested in the Facebook group for passengers on the Marine Jumper, https://www.facebook.com/groups/130876822395974.
