Genealogy is like a jigsaw puzzle, but you don't have the box top, so you don't know what the picture is supposed to look like. As you start putting the puzzle together, you realize some pieces are missing, and eventually you figure out that some of the pieces you started with don't actually belong to this puzzle. I'll help you discover the right pieces for your puzzle and assemble them into a picture of your family.

What a Lovely Compliment!
I received a very nice compliment recently. A family member of one of the celebrities who has appeared on Who Do You Think You Are? wrote to me and asked for a print copy of my blog post about that episode. The plan is to share it among immediate family members and with cousins in the future. I think it's wonderful that they liked my post enough to want to have a copy, and even nicer that they took the time and had the courtesy to ask for that copy. Maybe some of the big-name bloggers are used to that type of thing, but I'm still a relative newbie, and it's one of the nicest things someone has said about my blog.

Your brush with greatness is fun to hear about - AND you have the class and courtesy to keep the name to yourself. That alone may allow/encourage other celebrities to contact you. You know how to keep your mouth shut while still celebrating a very cool happenstance.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Carol! I've done many performances with celebrities, but this is the closest "famous" contact I've had because of my genealogy work. I'm sure many of my friends and relatives will be happy (and surprised?) to hear someone proclaim that I know how to keep my mouth shut (at least when it is warranted). :)
DeleteI always enjoy reading your summaries after watching the individual episodes. You often pick up on those small details that make a difference.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lara! One of the great things about working as a genealogist is that I've finally found a place where my obsessive-compulsive and anal-retentive qualities are appreciated. :)
DeleteGreat work, Janice!
DeleteThank you, Linda!
